In order to learn how to perform treatments with laser and intense pulsed light technology, practitioners need to have Level 4 Qualification Core Of Knowledge. This is the foundation course that provides a fundamental understanding of light and laser technologies.
Within Core of Knowledge, delegates learn how light interacts with skin to produce specific outcomes, as well as how to use treatments safely and effectively to achieve these in a clinical setting.
The course also covers standards and regulations that are relevant to the use of laser treatments in specific jurisdictions. This is an assessed course, and a certificate is issued upon successful completion.

However, we will provide a few online resources for you to look at in the PHI College online portal. These materials can be found in the ‘My Courses’ section of the website.
Understand the basic principles of laser generation and the differences in emission characteristics of laser and non-laser light.
Understand laser-tissue interaction mechanisms and the penetration of light of different wavelengths through skin and eye.
Understand laser hazard classification and the meaning of associated warning labelling on devices.
Understand the hazards to skin and eye from accidental exposure, incidental hazards and the concepts of Maximum Permissible Exposure and Nominal Ocular Hazard Distance.
Understand the principles of risk assessment and Laser/Intense Pulse Light (IPL safety management).
Understand the requirements for personal protection measures.
Understand relevant legislation, standards and guidelines.
Understand the different types of laser/IPL devices available on the market and what treatment opportunities they are able to provide.
